GPX Viewer lets you quickly open and explore GPX tracks directly in your browser. Upload a GPX file to see your route on a detailed topographic map, switch between different map styles including satellite imagery, and analyze useful route data such as distance, speed, elevation, ascent, and descent.

When timestamp data is available, the route is color-coded by speed, making it easy to see where you moved faster or slower. If elevation data is included, an interactive elevation profile appears below the map and is linked directly to your position on the route.

How it works?

1. Click Upload GPX below and select your GPX file.
2. Wait while the track is processed.
3. Your GPX route will appear on the map together with the available route statistics.
4. Use the map selector in the top right corner to switch between topographic, standard, and satellite maps.
5. Explore the route, elevation profile, speed data, and kilometer-by-kilometer breakdown.

Explore Your GPX Track on a Map

GPX Viewer provides an easy way to inspect a GPX route before or after an outdoor activity. Instead of looking only at numbers or a basic route line, you can see exactly where your track goes in relation to trails, roads, terrain, forests, mountains, and other geographic features.

The topographic map is especially useful for hiking, trail running, cycling, backpacking, and other activities where understanding the surrounding terrain matters.

You can also switch to satellite imagery or a standard map depending on what you want to examine.

The information shown depends on the data stored in your GPX file. For example, speed analysis requires timestamps, while elevation statistics require elevation data.

Supported Maps

GPX Viewer supports several map layers, allowing you to choose the view that works best for your route and activity.

Topographic Maps

• Topo (CyclOSM) – A detailed outdoor-focused map showing paths, roads, terrain features, and other information useful for hiking and cycling.
• Topo (ESRI) – A global topographic map with terrain information, landmarks, natural features, and elevation context.

Topographic maps are particularly useful when examining hiking, trail running, backpacking, mountain biking, and other outdoor routes.

Standard Map

• OSM Standard – The familiar OpenStreetMap view showing roads, paths, settlements, and geographic features.

This map works well for road cycling, urban routes, and general orientation.

Satellite Map

• Satellite (ESRI) – Satellite imagery showing terrain, vegetation, roads, fields, and the surrounding landscape.

Satellite imagery can be useful when you want to compare your GPX track with visible terrain features or get a clearer idea of the environment around the route.

Speed-Colored GPX Routes

If your GPX file contains timestamp data, GPX Viewer calculates your speed along the route and displays the track using different colors. This makes it easy to identify faster and slower sections at a glance.

If timestamp data is not available, the route is displayed as a clear red line instead, so you can still explore the complete track on the map.

Interactive Elevation Profile

When your GPX file contains elevation data, an elevation profile is displayed below the map. This provides a visual overview of the climbs, descents, high points, and low points along your route.

The elevation profile and map are linked. Hover over a point on the elevation chart to see the corresponding position on the route, making it much easier to understand exactly where climbs and descents occur.

Route Statistics

GPX Viewer automatically analyzes the data available in your GPX file and displays useful route statistics, including:

• Total distance
• Total time
• Average speed
• Total ascent
• Total descent
• Minimum altitude
• Maximum altitude

The available statistics depend on the information contained in the uploaded GPX track.

Kilometer-by-Kilometer Breakdown

For a more detailed look at your track, GPX Viewer divides the route into individual kilometers and shows available statistics for each section.

Depending on your GPX data, you can see:

• Speed per kilometer
• Time per kilometer
• Elevation gain per kilometer
• Elevation loss per kilometer

This is useful for analyzing hiking pace, running performance, cycling routes, or simply understanding how the difficulty of a route changes from one section to another.

Use GPX Files from Your Favorite Apps and Devices

GPX Viewer works with standard GPX files exported from GPS devices, sports watches, route planners, and outdoor apps. This includes GPX tracks created by devices and services from Garmin, Suunto, Komoot, Gaia GPS, and many others.

Simply export your route or recorded activity as a GPX file and upload it to explore the track on the map.
